Aravali Biodiversity Park

THE ARAVALI BIODIVERSITY PARK in Gurugram is a 380 acre of restored wilderness carved out of a 40-year old mining site in the millennium city of Gurugram. Hero MotoCorp Ltd has taken on the development and upkeep of this young northern Aravali forestscape since June 2021.  The Rewilders  is looking after the management and ecological development of the Park.
In the last ten years (2010-2021) iamgurgaon (IAG) collaborated with Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) to ecologically restore this mined landscape into a city forest with native forest flora of Aravallis.  The vision was to create a hotspot of plant biodiversity of the Northern Aravali in Haryana. Citizen, Corporates, School Children have contributed in creating this Park. We were fortunate to be part of this journey of ecological restoration since its inception.
The Park has become a small sanctuary harbouring endangered and rare plants of the Northern Aravali hills. Haryana is losing most of these plants rapidly to development and encroachments.
Over 200 species of native plants (trees, shrubs, herbs, climbers, grasses) have been added to the Park with a vision to showcase the forest flora. In the last ten years, the Park has become a favoured habitat for birds (over 199 species, as per ebird records) and wild animals (jungle cat, common palm civet, jackal, porcupine, nilgai and various kinds of reptiles), 66+ species of butterflies, 9 species of amphibians and much more.
